Prime Minister Narendra Modi will formally kick off Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign for the upcoming Delhi Assembly polls on Saturday at a mega rally at the iconic Ramlila Maidan.

Around 1 lakh people are expected to attend Modi’s rally.

Top leaders including BJP president Amit Shah, Union ministers Arun Jaitely, M Venkaiah Naidu and Piyush Goyal will attend Modi’ rally. Beisdes these chief ministers of Haryana, Jharkhand and Maharashtra will share the dais with the BJP’s satr campaigner.

PM Modi will be the face of BJP’s campaign in the city and the party feels the rally will help it build a momentum for the election.

As all high-profile leaders are expected at the venue on that day, safety is a prime concern for the BJP. Therefore, over 100 CCTV cameras will be put up at all entry and exit points as well as inside the ground.

At least a dozen metal detectors, X-ray machines and numerous barricades have also been placed at all strategic points.

In addition, bomb detection squad vans, ambulances and fire tenders will be stationed inside the ground.

BJP has been out of power in Delhi for the past 16 years and its Delhi chief Satish Upadhyay said the party was confident of winning the polls with a clear majority this time with the help of Modi’s charisma.

Delhi has been under President’s Rule since Arvind Kejriwal quit as the chief minister on February 14, 2014 after being in office for 49 days.

The elections will be an opportunity for the resurgent BJP, which has been on a winning streak under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in various Assembly polls since its spectacular success in the Lok Sabha polls last May, to seek a clear verdict unlike the fractured decision of 2013 polls in Delhi.

The BJP, which had then faced the polls under Modi as the chief campaigner for the party, could not get a majority in Delhi unlike the stunning success it had scored in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh which also went to polls then.

The BJP, which made its debut in Delhi in the last polls in 2013, emerged the largest party with 31 MLAs, followed by AAP which got 28 MLAs.

AAP managed to form a government with the support of Congress (8 MLAs) and JD(U) (one) but Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal resigned in 49 days making it a short-lived government.
